However it is no surprise that very few people actually know what that D4D tag means or even how a D-4D engine performs, even those who own those vehicles.
In that case I have tried to educate you about this whole tech used to revolutionize the original diesel engine. So, what does D-4D technically mean?
Common rail diesels inject a fine mist of fuel into the engine at very high pressure. The result is the same power and refinement as a petrol engine, but with better fuel efficiency and lower emissions.Trapezoidal prism surface area
One feature of the electronic controls associated with the common rail D-4D is that there is no need to wait for glow plugs to warm up before starting the engine like in the way it is in the turbo direct injection car engines. You just turn the key and it fires up immediately.
Fuel in the D-4D is pressurized to an extremely high mpa within the "common rail" that feeds all four cylinders older diesel engines have a separate pipe leading from the pump to each cylinder. The high pressure injection creates better fuel atomization for complete burning and increased power output. And because there is less fuel wasted though inefficient combustion, the D-4D delivers better fuel economy too.
In addition the computer control unit injects a small amount of fuel into the cylinder just before the main fuel load ignites. This "pilot burn" lowers the explosive force of the main combustion process and goes a long way to reduce the noise and vibration formerly associated with diesel engines. This all goes to make it one of the silkiest diesels engines ever built unlike the older diesel engines.
I wanted to share some information with you in order to make us understand the quality of fuel that we use on daily basis and have our engines face these problems which lead to very costly repairs. Common rail is a very good technology that produces more horse power and gives better fuel economy.
The only reason that these engines fail is the quality of fuel and filtration technology we use. These engines run on regular diesel but there are a few things we should keep in mind to make these engines run without problems. The Quality of the your fuel Matters First we need to know a few things about diesel fuel.
The fresh diesel from the refinery is actually very good; things start to happen after it is transferred from there to the storage or equipment tank. Here, the stability of diesel starts to change as quickly as after three months. The process of oxidation starts and diesel starts to become darker in color as dark and heavy particles starts to form. They can gum up and plug fuel filters and causes low power and poor performance.
Water is another problem as it enters fuel through condensation and poor handling along with dirt. Water and piston rings cause severe damage to fuel injection systems causing poor running and reduced performance and even valves are affected.

Another thing is fuel degradation caused by heat and it occurs when fuel comes in contact with extreme heat in high pressure injection systems. The bottom line is that our diesel is not handled properly. It is stored for long periods and the storage tanks are not regularly cleaned. These newer engines are sensitive and cannot take bad diesel. Therefore, I suggest that the fuel tanks should be cleaned and polished frequently by the oil companies and fuel stations.
There are additives available in some countries which can solve these problems if added to the diesel but I doubt they are available in most of our low developed countries like Uganda.

The engine block doesn't have liners. Inside the cylinder block, there is a forged crankshaft with eight weights and five main journals. The crankshaft pulley has a torsional rubber damper to reduce noise and vibration.
Also, the engine was equipped with the high-strength connecting rods and aluminum alloy pistons with resin-coated skirts. The pistons are cooled and lubricated with motor oil sprayed by oil jets at the bottom of the engine block.
The aluminum valve DOHC cylinder head is mounted on top of the engine block. There is a steel-laminate type head gasket between them. The engine has a timing belt for driving the intake camshaft only. The intake camshaft drives the exhaust camshaft by a gear. Camshafts are covered by a plastic head cover. As was noted earlier, the head has 16 valves or four valves per cylinder two intake and two exhaust valves. The intake valve diameter is a When the engine is cold, the valve clearance for the intake valves must be a 0.
The Common Rail system is an electronically controlled direct fuel injection system for diesel engines. The fuel is injected into the cylinders by the eight-hole type injectors. The air for 3. The max boost is 16 Psi 1. The compressed air before the intake manifold goes into the air-to-air type intercooler mounted on top of the engine. All engines have an oxidation catalytic converter lowered the emissions. Started from Euro 3 versions European emission standardthe engines were equipped with water-cooled EGR system exhaust gas recirculation.
The Euro IV engine versions had the serious problem with cracked pistons. It usually happens between k miles k km. That problem is characterized by the presence of black smoke, strong knocking noise, high crankcase pressure and loss of power.Comsol not converging
The problem was solved by installing reshaped pistons and new oil jets in The injectors are another source of problems. Copper seats under the common rail injectors can fail. That issue is common for late model years. The main symptom is a white smoke from the exhaust.
Also, there is a problem with injectors itself. The common rail system is sensitive to fuel quality. Why don't fictional characters say "goodbye" when they hang up a phone?

The code definitions are a good starting point when determining the cause of the service engine light but where do you go from there?Thing festival
We have a large number of resources to help you repair the problem. Here is how we suggest you proceed. Look up your code definition. This tells you where to start testing. If you are unsure of any abbreviations, check out the acronym list by clicking on the link at the left.
Next, read our article Automotive Circuit Testingand if there is an article related to the system you are testing, such as Oxygen Sensors or EGR concerns, read these as well. They will provide valuable info! If there is a link to a specific diagnosis strategy for the code then follow that and start testing. If there is no procedure for your manufacturer specific code, then I suggest referring to a similar generic OBD II code these are listed numerically by system type to get a good idea of what to look for.

In Japan, the Avensis is available at all Japanese network dealershipsand serves as the top level vehicle offered.
The Avensis was not sold in North America, where the Corolla shared the same platform, and the larger Camry is also available. It also shared a platform with the Allion and Premio. The Avensis was introduced into create a more modern name when compared with the Carina E.
The Avensis proved a sales success for Toyota Europe. The "Avensis" name is derived from the French term avancermeaning "to advance. Toyota introduced the Avensis nameplate on its new model, which was launched at the end of Although an extensive revamp of the previous generation Carina E, the only main common parts were the engines, with an all new style of body. The car was built at the Burnaston factory in Derby. At the same time, production of the five-door Toyota Corolla also started at the British plant.
The first generation Avensis had the option of four engines 1. The station wagon was essentially the Japanese-market second generation Toyota Caldina. All of the range gave solid build quality, excellent reliability, a spacious comfortable interior, generous equipment, smooth ride quality and good refinement, but very little in the way of excitement.

Since it seals the fuel system and maintains fuel tank pressure, it prevents gas fumes from being released into the atmosphere when your vehicle is not in use.
The check engine light alerts you to a loose, broken, or missing gas cap so you can tighten or replace it before you lose too much fuel through evaporation. It measures the amount of unburned oxygen in the exhaust system, so, with a faulty oxygen sensor, your engine may burn an unnecessary amount of fuel, reduce your fuel economy, and cause damage to the spark plugs and catalytic converter.
The catalytic converter plays a very important role by converting carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. The job of your mass airflow sensor is to measure the amount of air that enters the engine in order to determine how much fuel is necessary to run the engine efficiently. If the sensor is not functioning properly, it can cause damage to the spark plugs, oxygen sensors, or catalytic converter, and your vehicle will experience decreased performance and fuel economy.
The spark plug wires then transfer the spark from the ignition coil to the spark plugs. Reduced performance and fuel economy may result from faulty spark plugs or plug wires. If they are worn, they may clog the catalytic converter or cause damage to the ignition coils and oxygen sensors.
